Kagawa of Japan by Cyril Davey (Reprint)

Kagawa lived a very complex and amazingly deep life. His pursuit of “The Way of the Cross” was total and both a Christian and very Japanese sense. He is a great figure of history and any idealization of him comes out of the human flaw that we tend to idolize people who give themselves over to “the Heavenly Vision” with such totallity.

Kagawa lived a very complex and amazingly deep life. His pursuit of “The Way of the Cross” was total and both a Christian and very Japanese sense. I want Pentecostals and Evangelicals to embrace Kagawa as fully one of their own. Here is a good place for much of the church to start looking at Kagawa. (For a better sense of how different Christian communities may function I would recommend Richard Foster’s Book: Streams of Living Water.) This book is a good Evangelical account of Kagawa’s life that does not underplay his role in being with the people and his commitment to evangelism.

There does not exist yet any account that I know of that I would call truly balanced. To get a well rounded view of Kagawa you have to do a good bit of reading. Here is a good place to start.
